In SDAK, we teach our children through Learning Centres and the Multiple Intelligence approach.
Learning Centres
Learning Centres provide play-based learning opportunities for children to work at their own pace and ability levels. These student-centred centres also help them to develop real life skills such as cooperation, responsibility and flexibility.
Multiple Intelligence Approach
Dr Howard Gardner, a Harvard university psychologist, proposed that individuals do not have one overall intelligence but 8 distinct intelligences (SMARTS).
In order that each child has the opportunity to learn in ways harmonious with their unique intelligence, our teachers vary the presentation of their teaching materials. Instead of just teaching through the traditional 'Word Smart', our teachers will teach the same concept creatively through different intelligences (SMARTS) to facilitate effective learning.
1. Verbal Linguistic Intelligence (Word Smart)
2. Logical-Mathematical Intelligence (Logic Smart)
3. Visual/Spatial Intelligence (Picture Smart)
4. Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence (Body Smart)
5. Musical Intelligence (Music Smart)
6. Interpersonal Intelligence (People Smart)
7. Intrapersonal Intelligence (Self Smart)
8. Naturalist Intelligence (Nature Smart)
